Tesla’s long-promised Robotaxi service is now live in Austin, Texas, and Elon Musk says the company’s humanoid robot, Optimus, could eventually become Tesla’s biggest product by far.
In a recent post on X, Musk said Optimus will be “by far the biggest product of all time.” He also shared a claim that Optimus could take over a wide range of labor tasks, including some that are repetitive, physically demanding, or undesirable for humans.
The comments come as Tesla expands its focus beyond electric vehicles and into AI, autonomy, and robotics. The company has been positioning Optimus as a core part of its long-term growth strategy, alongside its self-driving ambitions and Robotaxi rollout.
Tesla’s Robotaxi launch is a major milestone for the company’s autonomous driving roadmap. The service began with a limited pilot in Austin, using a geofenced area and invite-only riders. While still early, the rollout gives investors a first look at Tesla’s plan to turn its self-driving technology into a commercial service.
Musk has repeatedly argued that Tesla’s future value will not come only from car sales. Instead, he sees the company as an AI and robotics platform with multiple high-growth businesses. Optimus is central to that vision, and Tesla has said it expects the robot to eventually be used in factories and other work settings before expanding to broader consumer applications.
The timing matters for investors. Tesla is facing pressure from slowing vehicle growth and intensifying competition in EVs, so new businesses like Robotaxi and Optimus are increasingly important to the stock’s long-term narrative. If Tesla can prove its autonomy and robotics programs at scale, it could open new revenue streams well beyond traditional auto sales.
For now, both projects remain early-stage. Robotaxi is still being tested in a limited environment, and Optimus has not yet been commercialized. But Musk’s latest comments reinforce that Tesla’s biggest upside may come from technologies that are still under development.
