Tesla has made clear that cameras and AI are the core of its autonomy strategy, but positioning hardware still matters. A vehicle that is expected to pick up riders, navigate dense cities, and operate without a human backup needs to know not only where it is, but also how confidently it knows where it is.

Dual GPS can serve several practical purposes. It may provide redundancy if one antenna or module loses signal. It can also help improve heading awareness, especially when a vehicle is moving slowly or stopped.
