Tesla has taken another step in its effort to improve convenience for owners in China. The company now supports iPhone digital car keys through Apple Wallet, allowing compatible Tesla vehicles to be unlocked and started with an iPhone or Apple Watch.
According to a Tesla customer support page in China, the feature works through Bluetooth connectivity and does not require cellular service. The digital key can be used through Apple Wallet, making it easier for owners to access their vehicles without carrying a physical key card or key fob.
Tesla has not announced a broader global rollout yet, so for now the feature appears to be limited to China. Still, the update shows Tesla continuing to integrate its vehicles with widely used consumer technology platforms.
For investors, this is a small but meaningful sign of Tesla’s ongoing focus on improving the ownership experience. Features like digital keys may not move vehicle sales on their own, but they help strengthen the brand and add value to Tesla’s software-heavy ecosystem.
The move also highlights how Tesla can benefit from deeper compatibility with Apple’s devices, which are widely used among premium car buyers. In a competitive EV market, convenience features can play a role in customer retention and product differentiation.
Tesla keeps using software and convenience features to improve the customer experience, which supports its premium positioning and brand loyalty. Even when the feature is limited to one market, it reinforces Tesla’s strategy of turning the car into a connected product rather than just a vehicle.
